Luanda - The director-general of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB-UAR), Gregoire Ndjaka, last Friday recognized, in Luanda, the need for a joint effort by the continent s institutions to reduce the costs of payment of broadcasting rights for sporting events., Speaking at a lecture on Acquisition of sporting events rights - Reality in Africa , at the production centre of the Public Television of Angola (TPA), the Cameroonian official said that only with concrete actions to raise awareness of the different entities can consensus on the issue be achieved. As an example, the Cameroonian journalist mentioned the talks for the first time on the continent for broadcasting rights of the African Nations Cup (CAN) in football in 1982, in Libya, which had to be assumed by the former president of that country, due to the incapacity of the other states to pay the high values required. In Libya the equivalent of USD 50,000 was requested, the president paid on behalf of the African countries. From then on, all states started to contribute with this amount each. Today the amount being mentioned is about one million three hundred and fifty thousand euros. So, how will the television networks pay these amounts? He asked. In addition to this, the lecture, which took place at the TPA Camama broadcasting centre, was attended by the national director of information of the Ministry of Mass Media , Rui Vasco, officials from different organs, journalists, sports and business personalities and other officials. ,
